Relief Assistance
Over $12 Million Donated to the UWI by UWIDEF in 2020
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic propelled the world into a new reality. This resulted in the UWI Mona campus having to expedite its online programme for teaching and learning. The UWIDEF was more than pleased to assist UWI to transition to this virtual method of teaching.
With the support of our donors, UWIDEF successfully provided smart devices (tablets) worth $5.7 Million to UWI, allowing those without tables to complete their studies during the pandemic.
Pediatric Ventilator and Bronchospoe Donated to the University Hospital of the West Indies (UWHI)
In 2020, as the pandemic continued, one of the greatest needs expressed by the medical fraternity in Jamaica was a demand for ventilator units. The requirement in our local hospitals was great and the UHWI was no exception. Against this background, a pediatric ventilator valued at $6.5 million was made to the UWHI Pediatrics Unit through the combined funds from Flow, Dr. Stephan Maxwell and a grant from UWIDEF.
$2.5 MILLION FOR STUDENTS QUARANTINED ON CAMPUS
In 2021, as a result of the pandemic, students had to be quarantined on the Mona campus and $2.5 million was provided by UWIDEF to purchase food for those who were not able to leave their dorms.
